Gear up for the Puerto Los Cabos World Cup and Celebrity Golf Tournament

The luxurious Puerto Los Cabos resort community in San Jose del Cabo will play host to one of the most exclusive sporting events in Mexico, the 2009 Puerto Los Cabos World Cup’s World Class Fishing and Celebrity Golf Tournaments, set to take place from October 10-14.

A Pro-Am Golf Tournament will kick things off at the new Puerto Los Cabos championship golf course designed by golf legends Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman. The tournament will feature players from the PGA and LGA, including Mexico’s very own Lorena Ochoa, professional athletes such as Oscar de la Hoya, Troy Aikman, Kelly Slater and celebrities such as Samuel Jackson, Kendra Wilkinson, and Kevin Costner to name a few.

Events are scheduled throughout the week, also including a three-day International Game Fishing Tournament (IGT), consisting of the largest cash prize of any IGT Mexico Tournament Series, an awards banquet, VIP receptions and an open-air concert as a grand finale on the 14^th.

Quentin Tarantino kicks off the 7th Annual Morelia International Film Festival with “Inglorious Bastards”

The 2009 Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) welcomed American filmmaker and director, Quentin Tarantino as he officially inaugurated this year’s festival with the international debut of “Inglorious Bastards,” on October 3rd at the Morelos Theatre inside Morelia’s Convention Center.

Running until October 11th, the festival will showcase five official competitive sections: Mexican short film, documentary and feature films, the latter exclusively for first and second time directors, as well as short films and feature films from Michoacán. For the first time, FICM will have Romania as an honored country with the presence of filmmaker Christian Mungiu, whose film “Four Months, Three Weeks and Two Days” won the Palm D´Or in Cannes.

FICM originated in 2003 with the goal of promoting up-and-coming Mexican cinema talents with Morelia as the main stage and has now grown to receive international recognition. This year’s program consists of 44 short films, 20 documentaries and 11 productions from Michoacan.

Art without borders in Tamaulipas

From October 9th through the 18th, art will be at every corner of the state of Tamaulipas, located in northeastern Mexico. Around 1,600 artists from all over the country will be part of the International Festival of Tamaulipas. Created 11 years ago, this festival represents the opportunity for different artists to exchange their points of view. The first one to do so was Spanish tenor Placido Domingo, who opened the festival with a special concert on September 30th at the convention center.

The Mexican state of Veracruz is the special guest that will be featured through original art expressions. More than 47 countries joined the festival since its creation and this year won’t be the exception; acrobats, opera singers, dancers and orchestras will come from Ireland, Spain, Poland, Hungary, China, South Africa, US, Argentina, Colombia and Cuba to celebrate another successful festival.

Every town will host different activities and most of them are free to the public. There will be more than 580 events within the festival and close to 650,000 visitors are expected to join them all. Among the participating artists will be Mexican painter Jose Luis Cuevas; the Queen Margot Ballet from Belgrade; the Glen Miller Orchestra; acrobats from West Lake, China; and also, Sergio Cardenas and the Philharmonic Orchestra from Poland. To get to this celebration, daily flights are available from Houston to the capital city of Tampico (airport code TAM), just a few hours for an international art experience.
